Three surviving brick-Gothic town gates and connecting wall sections from Prenzlau's medieval fortifications.
Prenzlau, the historic capital of the Uckermark region, built its town wall and fortified gates between the 13th and 15th centuries as the town grew into a regional trading center on the Ucker lake system. Although the town centre suffered severe damage in the final weeks of World War II, three of the fortified gates - the Mitteltorturm, Stettiner Tor, and Blindower Tor - survived along with connecting stretches of the town wall, making Prenzlau's fortifications among the more complete surviving medieval defensive systems in the wider Brandenburg region. The Mitteltorturm today houses a small museum on the town's fortification history.
