Strandbad Ferch, Schwielowsee

Strandbad Ferch occupies a sandy stretch of shoreline on the Schwielowsee, a broad lake formed by the Havel river southwest of Potsdam, in the small village of Ferch. The lido is noticeably quieter than the lidos closer to central Potsdam, drawing mostly local Havelland residents and weekend visitors from Berlin rather than large tour groups. The lakebed shelves gently from a sandy beach, making entry easy for children and casual swimmers, and water temperatures in summer typically reach 17-22°C. The Schwielowsee's open expanse can produce a light breeze on warm afternoons, which local sailors and windsurfers put to use elsewhere on the lake, though the swimming area at Ferch itself is generally calm. Facilities are modest but sufficient: changing rooms, showers, a small kiosk for drinks and snacks, and rowing or pedal boat hire directly at the lido. Admission is charged at a low rate typical of Brandenburg's village Strandbäder. The village of Ferch itself has a bakery and a small parish church a short walk from the water, and the lakeside path continues north toward Caputh, making it easy to combine a swim with a longer walk along the shore. Reaching Ferch without a car involves taking a regional bus from Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, since no direct rail line serves the village; the bus journey takes around 30-40 minutes depending on the route.
