Strandbad Caputh, Schwielowsee

Strandbad Caputh sits on the Schwielowsee shoreline in the village of Caputh, a few minutes' walk from two of the area's notable historic sites: the Baroque Caputh Palace, once a residence of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm, and the modest wooden Einsteinhaus, the summer house Albert Einstein used until 1932. The lido itself is a grassy, lawn-based bathing area with a sandy entry point into the lake, gently sloping and suitable for casual swimmers and children. Water temperatures in summer reach a typical 17-22°C for this stretch of the Havel lake chain, and the lake's breadth here gives an open outlook toward the Ferch shore opposite. Facilities include changing rooms, showers, a kiosk, and a volleyball court, giving the lido a slightly more active, sociable character than some of the smaller village Strandbäder nearby. Admission is charged at a modest rate. The village of Caputh itself, a short walk from the lido, has cafes, the palace grounds, and the well-known historic drawbridge over the Havel-Oder Wasserstraße canal, making the beach easy to combine with a half-day of sightseeing. Reaching Caputh without a car requires a regional bus from Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, since the village has no direct rail connection; the journey takes roughly 30 minutes.
