Bois de Vincennes — Complete Park Circuit

The Bois de Vincennes circuit follows the perimeter of Paris's largest public park, on the eastern edge of the 12th arrondissement. The trailhead is effectively Métro line 1's eastern terminus at Château de Vincennes, a stop included in the standard Paris transit fare with no separate ticket or permit needed; the Château de Vincennes fortress itself sits right at the start of the route. The full circuit covers about 14 km around the circumference of the forest, with essentially no elevation gain since the entire park sits on flat urban terrain, making the distance the only real physical demand of the walk. The surface is a mix of paved paths, gravel tracks, and packed dirt trails through the wooded sections, entirely non-technical and shaded for long stretches by the park's mixed woodland, though open areas around the lakes and the Paris Zoo receive full sun. Key landmarks along the loop include the Château de Vincennes at the start, Lac Daumesnil with its two islands and rowing boats, Lac des Minimes on the northern side, the Parc Floral botanical garden, and the Paris Zoological Park, any of which make a convenient turn-around point for a shorter walk. There are cafés, water fountains, and restrooms scattered throughout the park, so hikers do not need to carry a full day's water supply. The circuit is popular with runners and cyclists as well as walkers, so paths can be busy on weekends and fine weather evenings.
