The Lérins Islands, 1 km off Cannes, have clear water, rocky seabeds, Posidonia seagrass meadows and fish such as salema, wrasse and damselfish. Snorkelling is easiest from the coves on the south side of Île Sainte-Marguerite, reached by a 15-minute ferry from Quai Laubeuf. There are no lifeguards on most coves, so the activity suits confident swimmers who bring their own mask, fins and snorkel or rent them in Cannes. Water temperature rises from about 14 C in February to 24-25 C in August. Swimming near the ferry landings is prohibited, and boats use marked channels, so stay close to the shore and use a visible float.
