Nouvelle Aquitaine Weather & Climate Guide 2025
Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Nouvelle Aquitaine.
Nouvelle Aquitaine is France's largest region, stretching from the Atlantic coast and Pyrenees mountains in the south to the Loire Valley in the north. It encompasses world-renowned wine regions like Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, the surf capital of Biarritz, prehistoric wonders at Lascaux, and the dramatic Dune du Pilat. With diverse landscapes, rich gastronomy, and centuries of history, Nouvelle Aquitaine offers an unrivaled travel experience in southwestern France.
Best Time to Visit
Best Months
April-June & September-October
Spring and early autumn offer warm, sunny days (18-24°C), pleasant conditions for wine tours and outdoor activities, fewer crowds than summer, and lower accommodation prices. Vineyards are beautiful in spring blossom and autumn harvest colors.
Months to Avoid
November-February
Winter brings cold, wet weather to most of the region; many coastal businesses close; prehistoric cave visits are easier but some services are limited. However, December is fine for Bordeaux city and truffle season begins.
Climate Overview
Nouvelle Aquitaine has a predominantly oceanic climate influenced by the Atlantic, with mild winters and warm summers along the coast and in Bordeaux. The Dordogne and inland areas experience a more continental climate with hotter summers and colder winters. The Pyrenees in the south have an alpine climate with heavy snow in winter and pleasant cool summers. The Atlantic coast receives significant rainfall year-round but with long sunny spells.
