Cap Ferret lies at the tip of the peninsula in Lège-Cap-Ferret, on the Avenue de l'Océan, facing the Arcachon Bay in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. Two subjects dominate: the red-and-white lighthouse and the colourful oyster huts on the Basin side. The lighthouse rises about 58 metres above the pine and dune landscape at the end of the peninsula, and the climb of several hundred steps gives views over the bay and the ocean.

The red-and-white lighthouse and the colourful oyster huts on the Basin side are photogenic at low tide.

The oyster huts, in villages such as L'Herbe and Le Canon, are small wooden sheds painted in bright colours, set along the shore with boats, pontoons and oyster-farming gear in front. At low tide the bay exposes sandbanks and boats resting on the mud, adding foreground interest and reflections in the wet sand, while at high tide the water laps the pontoons. The Basin side faces east, so the soft late-afternoon light lights the huts with a warm tone, and sunset glows across the water. A 24-70mm lens covers huts and landscape, and a polarising filter deepens the sky and reduces glare on the water. The best season runs from spring to autumn, with clear light and open huts; summer brings the greatest crowds, especially at village markets and on the ferry from Arcachon, so arriving early or late is advisable. Tripods are tolerated on the public shore and pontoons, but working oyster areas are private and should not be entered, and drone rules for the bay should be checked. The lighthouse requires a paid ticket to climb. Restaurants, shops and restrooms are found in the villages, and the tidal timetable should be checked before visiting.
