Cathedral Tower Platform is a Strasbourg photo spot in Grande Île, best at late afternoon for views to the vosges and the black forest.

The viewing platform of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg sits at the base of the spire, reached by a spiral stair of roughly 330 steps from the Place de la Cathédrale on the Grande Île, in the Grand Est region of France. From this height of about 66 metres, the platform offers one of the best elevated views in Alsace: the red-tiled roofs of the old town spread below, the Ill and Petite France lie to the west, and on clear days the Vosges ridge appears to the west and the Black Forest to the east across the Rhine plain. Late afternoon is the strongest time for photographers, when low sun from the west lights the city and gives depth to the distant ridgelines; clearer air in autumn and winter increases visibility, while summer haze can flatten far views. Morning light gives softer contrast but may be hazy over the Rhine. Because the platform is narrow, shooting positions are limited and the space can feel crowded at peak hours, so arriving soon after opening or in the last hour before closing is usually better. The platform is open to ticket holders for a modest fee, and visitors should check current opening times and prices on the day. Tripods are generally not practical on the narrow platform and may be restricted, so a handheld technique with a fast shutter speed is the norm, with a monopod or bracing against the parapet as an alternative. Drone flights are restricted in the historic centre and above the cathedral and should not be assumed permitted. A 24-70mm lens covers the city views, while a 70-200mm pulls in distant ridgelines and individual rooftops. Because the spire itself is the building being climbed, it cannot appear in the frame, but the nearby roofs and the cathedral's nave make strong foregrounds. Restrooms and water are available in cafes around the square at ground level, not on the platform.
