Le Maquis

Le Maquis is a family-run luxury beach hotel in Porticcio, a resort village on the Gulf of Ajaccio on Corsica's western coast, approximately 18 km south of Ajaccio city centre by road. The hotel occupies a prime seafront position on a small bay sheltered by the maquis-covered Punta di Sette Nave headland. Established more than four decades ago, it retains an intimate character despite its prestige status, with a staff that greets returning guests by name and a management style that prioritises long-term relationships over turnover.

The hotel offers two pools — a heated freshwater pool and an open seawater pool fed from the gulf — along with a private beach fitted with sun loungers, parasols, and a watersports concession. The gourmet restaurant La Mer specialises in Corsican fish and meat dishes, with the terrace extending over the bay; candlelit beach dinner service is offered in July and August. Room categories range from classic sea-view rooms and garden bungalows set in lush planted grounds to prestige suites directly facing the Mediterranean. A professional thalasso spa delivers seawater hydrotherapy, body wraps, and bespoke wellness treatments using locally sourced marine ingredients.

The concierge operates a boat excursion desk with departures from the private jetty to the Sanguinaires archipelago, the Gulf of Valinco, and the Calanques de Piana UNESCO World Heritage site. Porticcio village, with its market, shops, and summer ferry connection to Ajaccio, is a ten-minute walk from the hotel entrance. A seasonal ferry from the village marina takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the Ajaccio quayside.
