The atmosphere at these midweek sessions is distinctly local; tourist numbers are low compared to the city's weekend profile. The Saturday market at Place Duguesclin is the largest session of the week. Stall count extends to cover food and fresh produce, Breton artisan food products, clothing, plants, and household goods. The market draws a mixed clientele of residents and tourists; its position outside the city walls and within walking distance of the train station makes it accessible on arrival or departure. Breton specialities — salted butter caramels, buckwheat flour, cider from the Rance valley, and kouign-amann — are sold by artisan producers at both sites. The quality of the artisan food offer is high, and producer turnover at established stalls is low. Cash is preferred at food stalls; card is accepted at most clothing and non-food vendors. Tax-free shopping facilities are not available at outdoor market venues.
