Coasteering and Cliff Jumping (Crozon Peninsula)

Coasteering on the Crozon Peninsula involves a guided traverse of the peninsula's granite and schist sea cliffs by swimming, scrambling, jumping, and traversing coastal ledges directly above the Atlantic Ocean. The Crozon Peninsula, in western Finistère, Brittany, France, is one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in the country, bounded by the Rade de Brest to the north, the Baie de Douarnenez to the south, and the open Atlantic to the west. Its sea cliffs rise to between 30 and 70 metres in places, with a shoreline of sea caves, natural arches, and sheltered coves accessible only by water or vertical descent. Guided sessions are organised by Breizh Aventure (breizhAventure.fr) and Crozon Presqu'île Outdoor, both operating from Camaret-sur-Mer on the western tip of the peninsula. Sessions run three hours and are conducted in wetsuits, helmets, and buoyancy aids provided by the operator at no additional charge. Participants swim sections between rocky promontories, scramble over low ledges above the swell, and jump from granite platforms into the sea at heights of 3–8 metres depending on participant confidence and guide assessment. All jumps are voluntary; no participant is required to jump, and every platform is checked by the guide for depth and surface conditions before entry. The safety briefing before each session covers tide awareness, Atlantic swell estimation, helmet fitting, correct jumping posture, wipeout recovery in surf, and the rescue procedures the guide will apply in the event of an injury. Guides hold BAFA outdoor activity leader qualifications, and all sessions carry full public liability insurance. The minimum age is typically 12 years, subject to guide assessment on the day. Participants must be capable of sustained open-sea swimming; buoyancy aids are provided and worn throughout. The season runs June to September; July and August offer the warmest water at 19–22°C and the calmest Atlantic conditions. Outside this window, water temperatures drop and swell height increases significantly. Personal items including phones and cameras cannot be taken onto the cliff route. Some operators offer GoPro footage of the session — confirm availability at the time of booking. Sessions are cancelled if swell exceeds safe limits on the morning of departure; a credit or rescheduled date is typically offered by both operators.
