An alternative approach is the Källängen entrance, reached by bus from Rautatientori to the Jokivarrentie stop plus about a 1.5 km walk. Entry to the national park is free and no permit is needed. The trail takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Elevation changes are small, but the forest and field terrain includes some steep, muddy sections, particularly after rain, so waterproof footwear is recommended. The surface is a mix of forest path, roots, damp ground and field edges. Tree cover provides shade through the forest sections, while the open farmland areas are more exposed to sun and wind. The route passes through an old limestone-burning and farm landscape, and the remains of the lime industry give the trail its name. Kalkkiruukki has a lean-to shelter and a campfire site, a pleasant place to rest or eat; fires are allowed only at the designated site. The park has more than 26 km of marked trails in total, so walkers can extend the day or shorten it by returning toward the trailhead. There is no drinking water on the trail, and visitors should carry their own supply. In summer, insect repellent and a tick check afterwards are advisable. The park is known for old forest and quiet surroundings close to the capital region, and it is less visited than Nuuksio.
