Bargaining tips
Negotiate like a local.
Start at about 40-50% of the first price in the bazaar and settle near 60-70%.
Walk away calmly if the price is unreasonable; the price often drops as you leave.
Compare two or three shops before buying papyrus, oils or perfume.
Malls, supermarkets and pharmacies have fixed prices; do not bargain there.
Agree the currency (EGP) before negotiating; quotes in euros or dollars are usually higher.
Cash in small EGP notes works best; card machines are rare in stalls.
Customs & restrictions
What you can and can't take home.
