Luxor Weather & Climate Guide 2025
Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Luxor.
Luxor is an open-air museum stretching along the Nile in Upper Egypt, home to the greatest concentration of ancient monuments on Earth. From the colossal Karnak Temple Complex to the tombs of pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings, Luxor preserves millennia of Egyptian civilization. Once the ancient capital of Thebes, it remains one of the world's most extraordinary archaeological destinations.
Best Time to Visit
Best Months
October to February
Temperatures between 20-25°C make sightseeing at outdoor temples and tombs comfortable. December-February is peak season with the most pleasant conditions, especially November-February when days are warm and evenings are cool.
Months to Avoid
June to August
Summer temperatures regularly exceed 40°C (104°F) and can reach 45°C in July-August. Visiting outdoor sites in this heat is exhausting and potentially dangerous without serious precautions. Only recommended for extreme budget travellers who can confine sightseeing to early mornings.
Climate Overview
Luxor has a classic hot desert climate (Köppen BWh) with virtually zero rainfall year-round and extreme summer heat. Winters are warm and pleasant with daytime temperatures around 20-25°C and cool evenings. Summers are intensely hot with daytime highs regularly exceeding 40°C from May through September. The Nile Valley location provides some humidity compared to the open desert, but conditions remain dry by any standard.
