Giza is the capital of Giza Governorate on the west bank of the Nile, directly across the river from Cairo, and the home of the Great Pyramids, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Its Nile-side districts of Dokki, Mohandessin and Agouza and its Pyramids Road corridor make it a practical base for visiting the ancient sites.
Giza's nightlife is quieter than central Cairo and centres on licensed hotel bars, the live-music scene at Cairo Jazz Club in Agouza, and shisha cafes in Mohandessin and Dokki.
