Kastellet is a star-shaped fortress in the Østerport district of Copenhagen, Denmark, built in the 17th century and still partly used by the military. Its five bastions are surrounded by a moat and grass ramparts, and the interior holds rows of ochre and red barracks buildings, a church and a white-capped windmill on the northern rampart.

The park is open to the public and is among the quietest of the city's major sights, which makes it a good place for unhurried compositions. The strongest frames use the moat as a leading line, with the windmill rising behind the rampart and the bridges crossing the water. Walking the harbour-side rampart gives the windmill reflected in the moat, while the gate approaches offer symmetrical views of the red buildings. The best light is sunrise and the golden hour before sunset, when low sun warms the barracks and picks out the texture of the grass banks; in the middle of the day the light flattens the red walls. April to October is the most reliable period, with green ramparts and long light, and misty autumn mornings add atmosphere. Crowds are modest compared with central sights, though joggers and dog walkers use the ramparts in the early morning, and tour groups arrive around late morning on the route to the Little Mermaid, which is nearby. A tripod is generally manageable on the wide paths if kept clear of the walkways, but military areas inside the fortress are signed and must not be photographed or entered. Drones are restricted here because of the military use and the proximity of controlled airspace, so flights should not be attempted. Entry is free, and the park is open from early morning to evening. Cafes and public toilets are available near Østerport station and along Langelinie. A wide-angle lens of about 16-35 mm suits the star-shaped geometry and the moat lines, and a tripod helps with low-light dawn frames.
