Limassol is the largest port city on the south coast of Cyprus, with a medieval castle in its Old Town, a modern marina and seafront promenade, and the ancient sites of Kourion, Kolossi and Amathus within a short drive.
Limassol is one of the safest tourist cities in the Mediterranean. Main risks are petty theft, heat, sea conditions, road traffic and taxi overcharging at airports. As of October 2026, the US rates the Republic of Cyprus Level 1 (lowered from Level 3 in June 2026 after the March 2026 regional conflict).

Essential safety tips
Practical advice that applies everywhere.
Limassol is safe for visitors; violent crime is rare. Keep valuables out of sight on beaches and in rental cars.
Drive on the left; take care at junctions, roundabouts and on mountain roads.
Check beach flag colours and avoid swimming alone in rough water.
Carry water and a hat in July and August when temperatures reach 35 C or more.
Do not enter the UN buffer zone except at designated crossings.
Tap water is safe but bottled water is common; carry photo ID.
Check the government travel advice for your country before travel, as regional tension can change flight schedules.
Common scams to avoid
Recognise and sidestep tourist-targeted scams.
Airport taxi overcharging
Unmetered night-time taxis at Larnaca have quoted EUR 200-300 for the Limassol run, against an official indicative fare of about EUR 64.
How to avoid: Insist on the meter, agree a total in writing, use Bolt or pre-book a transfer.
Rental car damage claims
Small agencies may charge for existing scratches.
How to avoid: Photograph the car at pick-up and take full insurance.
Overpriced Marina and Old Port menus
Some waterfront venues charge tourist prices and add service charges.
How to avoid: Check the menu prices before sitting down and eat a few streets inland.
