Hotel Lone
Croatia's first and only design hotel, winner of numerous architectural awards. Its sweeping curved facade overlooks Lone Bay, with a rooftop bar, underground spa, outdoor pools and cutting-edge contemporary interior.
Hotel Lone is Croatia's first purpose-built design hotel, situated in Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula and awarded multiple international architecture prizes since opening in 2011. The property stands at the edge of Lone Bay, a sheltered wooded inlet south of Rovinj's old town, within the Zlatni Rt forest park. The bay is accessible on foot from the old town in approximately 15 minutes along a pine-shaded coastal path.
Designed by the Croatian studio 3LHD, the building's organic curved form was conceived to blend into the surrounding topography rather than interrupt it. The facade sweeps in a broad arc facing the bay, with all public areas and most guest rooms oriented towards the sea. The interior draws on concrete, pale wood and custom furnishings throughout, with commissioned works by Croatian artists placed across corridors and common spaces.
The 236 rooms and suites are spread across five categories, from Standard Sea View rooms to the top-floor Presidential Suite. All incorporate floor-to-ceiling glazing, bespoke furniture and natural material finishes. Suites add balconies or terraces with unobstructed bay views.
Dining options include the Eden Restaurant, which specialises in contemporary Mediterranean cuisine with a strong emphasis on Istrian seasonal produce, and a poolside grill for casual lunches. The rooftop Bistro Bar is among the most sought-after evening venues in Rovinj, offering sweeping views across Lone Bay, the old-town skyline and the open Adriatic.
The underground Canvas Spa houses a heated indoor pool, three saunas, a steam room and a full treatment menu. Two outdoor pools on different levels of the property provide sea views from the terrace. A fully equipped fitness centre is available around the clock.
The concierge team organises sailing trips, wine and truffle excursions into the Istrian hinterland, and cycling tours through the forest park. Hotel Lone is managed by Maistra and suits both design-focused couples and active travellers. Rates typically range from around 280 EUR per night in shoulder season to over 500 EUR in July and August.
