Cetina River Canyon

The Cetina River Canyon is a dramatic limestone gorge carved by the Cetina River through the Dinaric karst south of Sinj and north of Omiš on the central Dalmatian coast of Croatia. The river runs approximately 105 kilometres from its source near Vrlika before descending through a spectacular 30-kilometre canyon section, with walls reaching 180 metres in places above the turquoise river below. The canyon enters the Adriatic at Omiš, where the river mouth cuts through a narrow cleft in the coastal cliff directly into the sea. The Cetina canyon is Croatia's foremost rafting destination, with a Class II–III section from Penušića Kuk to Radmanove Mlinice (approximately 9km) widely regarded as suitable for families and first-time rafters while still offering genuine rapid sections and swimming opportunities. Canyoning in the upper canyon above the main rafting section involves wetsuits, abseiling down waterfalls up to 20 metres, and natural water slides in slots that widen into pools — an adrenaline alternative suited to adults and adventurous teenagers. Cliff jumping platforms of various heights are accessible along the rafting route. The canyon also contains Radmanove Mlinice, a historic water mill complex now operating as a restaurant serving river fish and traditional Dalmatian cuisine in a garden setting beside the river. The Omiš Klapa Festival, a traditional a cappella choral singing competition, takes place in Omiš in June and July and reflects the town's deep connection to the canyon musical heritage.
