One of the newest legal routes into the eastern hills, opened in partnership between the CAR regional authority and the Fundacion Cerros de Bogota, climbing straight from the Rosales neighbourhood through Andean forest, high Andean forest and paramo. The trail crosses private reserve land, so numbers are capped and every walker books a slot in advance.
Sendero Las Moyas is a private-reserve forest trail that climbs the Cerros Orientales straight from the Rosales neighbourhood of Chapinero, starting at Transversal 2 Este No. 78-93 in Bogota, Colombia. It is one of the newest legal routes into the eastern hills, opened in partnership between the CAR regional authority and the Fundacion Cerros de Bogota. The trail crosses private reserve land, so numbers are capped and every walker must book a slot in advance through the Fundacion's booking page. Entry is restricted to an early-morning window, broadly Tuesday to Sunday from around 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. A modest reserve fee applies, typically under COP 30,000, confirmed at booking.
Getting to the trailhead is simple: take TransMilenio to Calle 72 or Flores station, then an SITP bus or taxi up to Rosales and Chapinero Alto. Walkers should bring the booking confirmation and an identity document. The trail is about 3.5 km one way and takes 3 to 5 hours return. It gains roughly 450 m from about 2,750 m to the upper paramo edge, which is a sustained uphill climb without technical scrambling, so it is rated moderate. The surface is dirt, roots and clay with some rock steps, slippery after rain. Shade is plentiful in the lower sections, where Andean forest and then high Andean forest cover the slope, while the upper paramo section is open to wind and sun.
The path passes through three vegetation zones: Andean forest, high Andean forest and paramo, with a change in plants and birdlife at each step. The upper paramo edge is the natural turn-around point, with views back over Bogota, and walkers usually descend by the same route. There are no huts, shops or piped water on the trail, so visitors should carry at least 1.5 litres of water and any food. Weather is changeable, with cold wind and showers at altitude, and clay sections become slick. Because the reserve is private and capped, groups should arrive on time, stay on the marked path and leave before the morning window closes.
