Top 10 Photo Spots
The most photogenic locations in Sichuan.
Jiuzhaigou Five Flowers Lake
The crown jewel of Jiuzhaigou β a shallow lake of extraordinary turquoise, emerald, and violet colors with ancient fallen logs visible beneath the transparent water and snow peaks reflected in the surface.
Jiuzhaigou Pearl Beach Waterfall
A wide cascading waterfall where water fans across a coral-colored travertine shelf in dozens of strands β best photographed with a telephoto to compress the distant mountains behind it.
Chengdu Giant Panda Base β Bamboo Forest
Giant pandas feeding on bamboo in lush naturalistic enclosures β the classic Sichuan wildlife photography opportunity. Morning light filters through the bamboo canopy creating beautiful dappled light.
Huanglong Five-Color Pond
At the top of Huanglong valley, the Five-Color Pond shimmers with vivid shades of green, blue, gold, and turquoise against a backdrop of snow peaks. At 3,600m the air is exceptionally clear.
Siguniang Mountain (Four Girls Mountain) Ridge
The snow-capped Four Girls Mountain peaks dramatically rise above forested alpine valleys β spectacular at dawn when pink alpenglow colors the summits against deep blue sky.
Daocheng Yading β Chenrezig Peak Reflection
The sacred Chenrezig Peak (6,032m) reflected in the still surface of Milk Lake at dawn is one of the most dramatic landscape photographs possible in China. The combination of snow, water, golden grass, and prayer flags creates an iconic composition.
Chengdu Kuanzhai Alley β Morning Light
The Qing Dynasty courtyard lanes are beautifully photogenic in morning light before the tourist crowds arrive β red lanterns glowing in warm light, ancient wooden faΓ§ades, and atmospheric grey-tile rooflines.
Leshan Giant Buddha β Boat View
The only view that captures the full 71-meter height of the Giant Buddha is from a boat on the Min River. Morning light is softer; golden hour in late afternoon illuminates the face beautifully.
Mount Emei β Golden Summit at Sunrise
The Golden Summit at 3,099m offers a mythical sunrise experience β a sea of clouds below, alpenglow on the Samantabhadra golden statue, and pilgrims in saffron robes in the foreground. An unforgettable and spiritually charged photograph.
Tagong Grasslands β Yak Herders
Vast highland meadows with Tibetan nomadic yak herders, tent camps, prayer flag strings, and the distant snow peak of Yala Mountain create a timeless Tibetan pastoral scene.

Photography Tips
Get better shots in Sichuan.
A polarizing filter is essential for shooting Sichuan's mineral lakes β it eliminates surface glare and reveals extraordinary underwater colors
Arrive at Jiuzhaigou park gate by 7:00 AM to be on the boardwalk at Five Flowers Lake before morning tour groups arrive
At altitude (Huanglong, Daocheng) the thinner air and less pollution create exceptional clarity β shoot wide for maximum sky and landscape detail
Autumn (late SeptemberβNovember) is by far the best season for landscape photography in Sichuan β brilliant foliage frames every highland scene
A 70β200mm zoom is ideal for panda photography at both the Chengdu and Wolong bases
Drone flying is strictly prohibited inside national parks (Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Emeishan) β carry a camera instead
At high altitude the UV is intense β use lens hoods and expect sharper, more saturated colors than at sea level
Hire a local guide in western Sichuan who knows the best sunrise viewpoints β many are unmarked and not on any app
Photography Etiquette
Respect local customs while capturing memories.
Always ask permission before photographing people, especially women. Offer to show them the photo.
Never photograph military installations, government buildings, airports, or security checkpoints.
Some religious sites prohibit photography or require fees. Always check before shooting.
Be discrete with expensive camera gear in crowded areas. Don't obstruct traffic or pathways for photos.
