Mount Emei Golden Summit via Wannian Temple

Mount Emei, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains, rises to 3,077 m at its Golden Summit in Emeishan City, Leshan, about 160 km southwest of Chengdu. This route starts at Baoguo Temple gate, reached by high-speed train from Chengdu East to Emeishan followed by a local bus and shuttle into the scenic area, and follows the Wannian Temple approach, combining about 6 km of trail with two cable car sections to reach the summit. From the Wannian cable car base around 1,020 m, the path climbs through subtropical forest past Wannian Temple, home to a large bronze statue of Samantabhadra, before stone steps lead toward the mid-mountain cable car station that carries hikers over the steepest final approach to the Golden Summit. The trail surface is almost entirely stone steps, often wet or misty, with limited exposure but sustained elevation gain that makes the walking portions physically demanding despite the cable car assistance. Weather changes rapidly near the top, where the Golden Summit is frequently shrouded in cloud and considerably colder and windier than the forested base. The full outing typically takes 8-10 hours including cable car time and summit exploration, with teahouses and rest stops spaced along the lower trail but sparser near the top. There are no true refuge huts on this route, though guesthouses cluster around the mid-mountain cable car stations for those splitting the ascent over two days.
