Yongxingfang Night Food Street Experience

Yongxingfang is a themed food street rather than a formally guided experience, built to recreate a Tang-dynasty streetscape in Beilin District, central Xi'an, and open to visitors at no admission charge. The street runs for several hundred metres and hosts dozens of stalls and small restaurants selling Shaanxi and broader Tang-style dishes, from yangrou paomo mutton stew and roujiamo to grilled skewers, persimmon pancakes, and sweet rice wine. Because there is no single tour operator, visitors move at their own pace between vendors and pay individually as they go, with a typical evening of tasting running roughly ¥50 to ¥90 (about $7 to $12) depending on how many dishes are sampled. The street's best-known feature is a nightly street performance in which a costumed server pours and throws a full bowl of rice wine over their shoulder without spilling it, a routine that has become one of Xi'an's most photographed food-street moments; performances typically run several times each evening once it gets dark. Visitors come as couples, families, and larger groups without any fixed group size or booking requirement, and Mandarin is the everyday language of the vendors, though menus are usually illustrated with photos. There is no pre-arranged dietary accommodation; substitutions or ingredient questions are handled stall by stall. The street is fully paved and open-air, laid out with wide walkways between the recreated Tang-style shopfronts, and it stays lively well into the evening, making it a natural stop after visiting the nearby Bell Tower and Muslim Quarter. Stalls along the street rotate seasonally, with hot food such as mutton stew and grilled skewers dominating in cooler months and cold noodle dishes and iced sour plum drink more prominent in summer.
