Jiangsu is a coastal province in eastern China, on the northern side of the Yangtze River Delta and the Yellow Sea. It is one of China's wealthiest and most densely populated provinces, anchored by the capital Nanjing and by Suzhou, the province's largest city, whose classical gardens are UNESCO-listed. Jiangsu is celebrated for its canal-laced water towns, Grand Canal heritage, Taihu Lake, and refined Huaiyang and Jiangnan cuisine.
Jiangsu has a humid subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and damp (Nanjing averages around 3°C/37°F in January, with occasional frost and light snow), spring and autumn are mild and short, and summers are hot and humid (Nanjing is often above 35°C/95°F in July-August). The Meiyu (plum rain) season brings weeks of drizzle from mid-June to mid-July, and typhoon remnants occasionally reach the province between July and September. Northern Jiangsu (Xuzhou, Lianyungang) is colder and drier in winter than the south (Suzhou, Wuxi).

- Hairy crab season (Oct-Nov), with crab menus in Suzhou, Wuxi, and Nanjing
- Fewer typhoon and plum-rain disruptions than Jun-Sep
- Shoulder-season prices outside the national holidays
