Mochou Lake Park lies in Jianye District on the western side of central Nanjing, Jiangsu province, with an entrance on Mochou Road near the Shuixi Gate. The lake takes its name from the legend of Mochou, a young woman of the Southern Dynasties era, and the park is known for traditional Jiangnan-style pavilions, covered walkways, rockeries, a statue of Mochou and the Shengqi Hall associated with a historic Ming-era anecdote.

The main frames combine still water and reflections with pavilion roofs and willow-lined shores, and lotus ponds in summer with the pavilions behind. Early morning offers mist over the lake, calm water for reflections and soft light, while sunset lights the western shore and gives warm colour on the eaves. The best seasons are June to August, when lotus flowers bloom, and April to May, when blossom and fresh green surround the lake; autumn and winter bring quieter, more subdued scenes. Midday summer light is harsh, and haze can reduce distant contrast. Crowds are light at dawn, when local visitors exercise along the paths, and heavier on weekends and holidays, when boating and strolling visitors fill the pavilions; tripod positions along the lakeside paths are easy to find early in the day. Tripods are generally tolerated if they do not obstruct the paths. The park has a modest entry fee, which visitors can confirm at the gate. Drones are restricted in central Nanjing and should not be assumed permitted. Restrooms, tea houses and refreshment stalls are available inside the park near the main pavilions and the gate, and the park's compact size makes it easy to walk around the lake in an hour or two.
