Wuhan Revolution Museum

The Wuhan Revolution Museum occupies the former administrative offices of the Hubei Military Government, immediately adjoining the Red Building in Wuchang District. Established in the buildings used by the revolutionary government after October 1911, the museum's core collection covers the years from the late Qing reform movements through the 1911 uprising and the early Republican period. Exhibits include original documents, revolutionary flags, firearms and military equipment used by the New Army units that mutinied, photographs of key figures such as Li Yuanhong and Huang Xing, and reconstructed offices showing how the fledgling military government operated in its first weeks. The complex is organized as a series of restored courtyard buildings connected by covered walkways, giving visitors a sense of the working government compound rather than a single purpose-built gallery. Curatorially the museum is arranged chronologically and thematically by department, tracing the political, military, and diplomatic strands of the uprising in parallel. The buildings were restored through several phases from the 1960s onward, with the most extensive renovation completed for the uprising's centennial in 2011, and the complex is now a nationally protected cultural relic maintained alongside the Red Building as a single historical precinct.
