Yuexiu Park Zhenhai Tower Hillside Walk

Yuexiu Park, Guangzhou's largest urban park, occupies a series of low hills in Yuexiu District and offers an easy, well-shaded walking route past the city's most recognizable historical landmarks, making it a gentler alternative to the longer climbs on Baiyun Mountain or in Conghua. The park entrance sits directly above Yuexiu Park Station on Metro Line 2, Exit B1, and general admission is free, though the Guangzhou Museum housed inside Zhenhai Tower charges a separate ticket. A full loop of the park's paved hillside paths covers roughly 3-4 km and takes 1.5-2 hours, climbing gently to around 70 m near the five-story Zhenhai Tower, a Ming Dynasty watchtower that has become an unofficial symbol of the city and now houses exhibits on Guangzhou's history. The walk also passes the Five Rams Statue, a large granite sculpture depicting the five rams of Guangzhou's founding legend and one of the most photographed landmarks in the city, as well as three artificial lakes, mature banyan trees, and several smaller pavilions and monuments scattered across the park grounds. Paths are entirely paved and well maintained, with shade from established trees covering most of the route, making this a comfortable walk even in Guangzhou's hotter months compared with more exposed mountain trails. The park draws large numbers of local residents for morning tai chi, group dancing, and casual exercise, giving the walk a lively, community feel rather than a wilderness one. Because of its central location and free admission, Yuexiu Park works well as a short, low-effort walking option to pair with sightseeing elsewhere in Yuexiu District, including nearby Beijing Road and the Chen Clan Academy.
