Yong Qing Fang and Shangxiajiu Snack Street Route

This self-guided route links two adjoining heritage areas in the old Xiguan quarter of Liwan District: Yong Qing Fang, a restored block of traditional shophouses turned into small galleries, cafes and craft shops, and the Shangxiajiu pedestrian street, a covered arcade shopping and snacking corridor that has served as one of Guangzhou's primary commercial streets for over a century. The route typically starts with a stop at Nanxin Milk Dessert Expert on Dishifu Road for a bowl of double-skin milk, the delicate steamed dairy dessert the shop has served since 1934, before continuing into the narrower lanes of Yong Qing Fang to browse restored qilou shophouse facades now occupied by small businesses. From there, the walk moves onto the main Shangxiajiu arcade, where covered walkways shelter a dense run of shops, snack stalls and dessert counters regardless of weather, a layout dating to the street's early twentieth-century development. Visitors with more time can extend the route with a stop at the nearby Wenchang branch of Guangzhou Restaurant for a formal dim sum meal in its Suzhou-garden-style courtyard. The combination of a quieter, more curated heritage block and a livelier working shopping street gives the route two distinct paces within a single short walk, and its central Liwan District location makes it easy to combine with other nearby food stops such as Tao Tao Ju or Ronghua Lou.
