Canton Tower

Canton Tower rises 600 meters above the Pearl River on Yuejiang West Road in Haizhu District, its lattice-steel 'ethereal waist' silhouette instantly recognizable across the Guangzhou skyline since opening in 2010. Visitors enter at the base near Canton Tower Station and take high-speed elevators to the main observation decks around the 105th to 108th floors, where floor-to-ceiling windows and open-air terraces look out over the Pearl River New Town skyline, the river itself, and on clear days the hills beyond the city. A typical visit covering the indoor decks and a rotating restaurant view runs two to three hours, longer for those adding the Bubble Tram, a slow-moving glass capsule that circles the tower's exterior at height, or the Sky Drop free-fall ride and the 106th-floor Skywalk, a narrow open steel walkway around the tower's rim. The clearest photo vantage points are the outdoor terrace decks, which frame the river bends and the futuristic towers of Zhujiang New Town below, while the tower itself, lit nightly in changing colors, is best photographed from the opposite riverbank or from a Pearl River cruise boat. Crowds build through the afternoon and peak in the two hours around sunset, when visitors gather to watch the transition from daylight views to the illuminated night skyline; arriving right at the 9:30AM opening offers the quietest conditions for those who prefer uncrowded decks over the sunset spectacle.
