Tianyou Peak is the best-known high viewpoint in the Wuyi Mountain National Scenic Area, Wuyishan City, Nanping, in northern Fujian, China, and looks down on the S-shaped Nine-Bend Stream (Jiuqu Xi) as it winds between red-rock cliffs. Wuyi Mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage site, listed for both natural and cultural value, and its Danxia-style sandstone peaks, bamboo rafts and tea terraces give the overlook a distinctive frame. From the summit, photographers see the river curving through the valley, steep crags rising on both sides, and tea gardens and forest in the foreground and middle ground. The classic image is dawn mist filling the stream valley with peaks poking through, which is most likely after rain or on cool, humid mornings. Light direction depends on the time of day: sunrise gives soft, directional light with mist, while mid-morning sun can create harsh contrast on the pale rock. March to June brings fresh greenery and frequent mist, and October to November offers clearer air and autumn colour, while summer is often hot and hazy. Rain can obscure views, but the moments after a shower often give the most atmospheric conditions. The overlook is popular with tour groups, and the summit platforms are narrow, so crowds build quickly after sunrise; photographers wanting a tripod position generally climb in the dark and arrive well before first light, carrying a headlamp. Tripods are permitted in open areas of the viewing platforms but should not block the path. Drones are restricted in the national scenic area and generally require permission. An entrance ticket for the Wuyi Mountain scenic area is required, and prices are set by the management authority and may change; a separate bamboo-raft ticket applies to river drifts. The ascent involves a sustained climb up stone steps, and visitors should wear sturdy shoes. Restrooms and water are available near the entrance and at some points along the route. A telephoto lens isolates river bends and cliff faces, while a wide-angle lens takes in the whole valley, and a waterproof jacket is useful in changeable weather.
