Between is a club-bar in the Shapowei Art Zone of Siming District, Xiamen, in China's Fujian province. Shapowei is a former fishing and warehouse quarter beside the harbour that has been reshaped into a cluster of galleries, studios, cafes and bars, and Between belongs to its independent nightlife scene. The venue combines the feel of a neighbourhood bar with the programming of a small club. Its focus is old-school hip-hop and electronic music, and the listed pattern is evenings, with featured events held roughly twice a month. On ordinary evenings the room runs as a relaxed bar; on event nights the music takes over and the crowd grows. Patrons are mostly local twenty- and thirty-somethings, art-zone regulars, students from nearby universities and a smattering of foreign visitors. Dress is casual and nobody is turned away for sneakers or streetwear. The atmosphere is informal, music-first and friendly rather than glamorous, with none of the velvet-rope formality of Xiamen's larger commercial clubs.
