The Qingyuan Mountain Ridge Path is a short, popular hike in Qingyuan Mountain Scenic Area, Fengze District, on the northern edge of Quanzhou, in southeastern Fujian province, China. Quanzhou was a major medieval port, and the mountain holds Taoist, Buddhist and folk shrines as well as one of the region's best-known stone carvings. Trailhead access is simple: a city bus or taxi from central Quanzhou reaches the scenic area entrance in a short ride, and private drivers can use the car park near the gate. An entrance ticket is required. The ridge path covers about 3 km and takes around 2 hours, with about 150 m of elevation gain, which is easy. The surface is mostly stone steps and paved paths, with some rocky sections near the summit area, and handrails on steeper stretches. Much of the lower route is shaded by pines and banyan trees, while the ridge lines are open and breezy, with views over Quanzhou and the surrounding plain. Exposure is low. Key landmarks include the Laojun Rock, a large Song dynasty stone figure of the Taoist sage Laozi carved from a natural boulder, the temple halls and pavilions scattered across the slopes, and spring-fed pools. A common turn-around is the Laojun Rock for visitors short on time, while others continue along the ridge and loop back through the temple area. Water and drinks are sold at kiosks near the gate and along the main paths, and the pavilions provide shade and shelter from showers, though there are no huts for overnight stays. The mountain is busy with local walkers on weekends and during festivals, particularly around Lunar New Year, when temple fairs draw crowds. Weather is mild for most of the year, and the area can be visited year-round; the main drawback is heavy rain during the plum rain season in spring and typhoon-related closures in late summer. Early mornings offer cooler air and the best views before haze builds over the city.
