Day trip from Siem Reap, Siem Reap
Preah Vihear Temple
Preah Vihear is one of the most dramatically situated temples in Southeast Asia, perched on the edge of the Dangrek Escarpment at 625 meters elevation, with sheer cliffs dropping into Thailand below. The 11th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva stretches for 800 meters along the cliff top, with the main sanctuary at the very edge of the precipice. The views from the cliff are breathtaking. The temple is also historically significant as the subject of a long-running border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, resolved by the International Court of Justice in Cambodia's favour in 2013.
