Closed to regular traffic for most of its length, the boulevard is lined with international and Bulgarian fashion shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries and ice cream stands, and many of the buildings from the early 20th century have been restored.

Vitosha Boulevard is Sofia's main pedestrian shopping and dining street, running from the area near Sveta Nedelya Square in the north toward the National Palace of Culture in the south, with Mount Vitosha rising at the far end of the view. Closed to regular traffic for most of its length, the boulevard is lined with international and Bulgarian fashion shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries and ice cream stands, and many of the buildings from the early 20th century have been restored. Side streets such as ul. Alabin and ul. Han Asparuh lead to more restaurants and bars, while the Church of St Nedelya and the Serdica ruins sit at the northern end. Visitors come to stroll, people-watch, shop and have a coffee on a terrace, and the street is also used for street performers, small events and seasonal markets. The southern end near NDK connects to the large park and the Bulgaria Square fountains. A walk along the full boulevard takes around 20 to 30 minutes, but most visitors spend one to two hours with stops. Shops generally open around 10:00 and close about 21:00, while cafes and restaurants stay open later. Late afternoon and evening are the liveliest, with crowds peaking on Friday and Saturday evenings and during summer. Mornings are calm and suit photography of the wide street and the mountain view. Prices on terraces are higher than in side streets, so many visitors step a block off the boulevard for cheaper meals. The street is reached by Metro M2 at NDK on the southern end or by Serdika and Sofia University stations on the northern side. It is free to walk, and it is a natural link between the historic centre and the modern district around NDK.
