Boyana Waterfall is one of the best-known natural sights in Vitosha Nature Park, on the mountain that rises directly above Sofia, Bulgaria. The falls drop roughly 25 metres over rock steps in a forested ravine, and the area is protected as a reserve. The trailhead lies near ul. Boyansko Ezero in the Boyana district, close to Boyana Church, and the walk takes visitors from the edge of the city into mountain woodland within a short distance.

The classic route begins on the Boyana side and climbs steadily through beech and spruce forest along a marked path. The walk to the waterfall takes about 1.5 to 2 hours uphill, with the round trip taking three to four hours including time at the falls. A shorter option begins at Kopitoto, reached by taxi or car, from which the walk to the falls takes about an hour. Paths can be rocky and steep in places, and sturdy shoes are strongly advised. The forest stream accompanies much of the trail, and the sound of the water grows as the falls get closer.

The flow is strongest in late spring after snowmelt, when the water is full and the surrounding forest is bright green. Autumn adds colour, and in winter the falls can freeze into ice formations, though the steeper sections of the path may become icy and need extra care. In dry summers the flow can drop, so the view is less dramatic. Visitors should carry water, check the weather, and start early to leave enough daylight for the return.

There is no entry fee, as the site is open-access and visited in daylight hours only. Weekdays are quiet, whereas sunny weekends bring many local walkers, families and groups. The best photo angle is from the viewing area at the foot of the falls, where the water can be framed against the rock. Many visitors combine the hike with a stop at Boyana Church and the National Museum of History in the same district, making a full day of nature and culture on the southern edge of the city.
