São Sebastião - Praia da Enseada

Praia da Enseada is one of the largest beaches around São Sebastião, a historic colonial-era town on São Paulo's north coast, sitting within a broad, sheltered bay that keeps the water calm and shallow along most of its length. The sand is light-colored and the beach runs for a long, gently curving stretch backed by Av. Doutor Altino Arantes and a mix of hotels, pousadas, and beachfront restaurants. Because the bay faces inward rather than open ocean, waves are minimal, making this one of the more reliably family-friendly beaches on the north coast. Beachfront kiosks and restaurants line much of the shore, with showers and public restrooms available at intervals, and watersports rental operates in the busier summer season. The beach sits a short distance from São Sebastião's colonial-era historic center, with its churches and old town streets, and close to the ferry terminal where the free DERSA passenger and car ferry crosses the channel to Ilhabela, making Enseada a natural stopover for travelers combining the mainland coast with the island. Getting there from São Paulo takes a direct bus of roughly 3.5-5 hours from Tiete Bus Terminal, followed by a short local bus or taxi ride from the São Sebastião terminal to the beach itself. The proximity to the ferry crossing means the area sees a steady flow of travelers year-round, not only in the summer season.
