Boicucanga

Boicucanga is a quieter beach in the municipality of São Sebastião on São Paulo's north coast, just south of the more famous Maresias and sharing the same stretch of the Rodovia dos Tamoios and Rio-Santos road. The sand is light and the beach is more sheltered than its neighbor, giving it calmer, shallower water that suits families and casual swimmers better than the surf-driven main stretch at Maresias. It is a shorter, more residential beach town feel, with simple beach kiosks and casual restaurants rather than the beach club scene found up the coast. Showers are available near the main beach access, though facilities are more modest than at Maresias or Praia Grande. The main draw beyond the beach itself is access to nearby diving and snorkeling sites, including boat trips out to the Aguas Claras and Lage de Santo Antonio reef areas, which are popular with local dive operators offering day trips. The quieter, less crowded atmosphere makes Boicucanga a favored base for divers and families who want proximity to Maresias's restaurants and nightlife without staying in its busiest, loudest section. Reaching Boicucanga from São Paulo follows the same route as Maresias: a direct bus of roughly 3-4 hours from Tiete Bus Terminal, or a drive via the Via Dutra and Rodovia dos Tamoios, alighting at the Boicucanga stop along the coastal highway.
