Santos - Praia do Gonzaga

Praia do Gonzaga sits at the heart of Santos, the historic coffee-export port city on São Paulo's south coast, directly behind the Jardim da Orla, an urban garden promenade recognized as the world's longest continuous beachfront garden. The sand is light and flat, running along a gently curving city bay rather than facing open swell, so the water stays calm and shallow close to shore. Water clarity is modest and tends to be weaker than beaches farther from the Santos port channel, since currents carry some harbor and estuary influence along this stretch. The beach itself is narrow to moderate in width and entirely urban, fronted by Av. Presidente Wilson and the apartment buildings and hotels of the Gonzaga neighborhood. The Jardim da Orla adds cycling and walking paths, an outdoor gym, sports courts, and a near-continuous line of beach kiosks and restaurants, making the amenities here more about the promenade than the sand itself. Showers and public restrooms are available at intervals along the garden. The atmosphere is a mix of local residents exercising on the promenade, families spending the day on the sand, and visitors combining the beach with the nearby historic center and the Museu do Pele football museum a short walk or ride away. Because Santos has no direct rail link from São Paulo, buses from Tiete Bus Terminal are the standard way to arrive, taking roughly 1-1.5 hours. The beach and promenade are easily walkable from downtown Santos hotels, and taxis and ride-hailing cover the rest of the city.
