Čvrsnica is a long limestone massif on the border of Herzegovina and central Bosnia in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its best-known landmark is Hajdučka Vrata, a natural rock window in the main ridge. The hike usually starts from the Blidinje area, within Blidinje Nature Park, reached by car from Mostar in about 1.5 hours; parking is informal near the lake and mountain tracks, and the park may charge an entry fee, so visitors should check locally. The approximate route is about 15 km with 900 m of ascent and takes six to seven hours. Although the distance and climb sit at the upper end of moderate, the exposed ridge sections, loose scree and short scrambles near the rock arch make it a hard day overall. Surfaces include meadow paths, stony tracks, steep scree and bare limestone. There is almost no shade above the forest line, and the ridge is open to wind and sudden weather. Landmarks include the high pasture around Blidinje Lake, the cirque below the ridge, the rock window of Hajdučka Vrata and, further along the massif, Pločno, which at about 2,228 m is the range's highest summit. Sensible turn-around points are the saddles below the arch, particularly when wet rock makes the scrambling treacherous. Water is limited: springs near the pastures may be seasonal, so about two to three litres should be carried. Basic accommodation and meals are available around Blidinje, and mountain huts on the massif should be confirmed with local mountaineering clubs before use. Hikers should follow marked paths, as mine contamination from the 1990s conflict persists in parts of Herzegovina.
