Ta Cu Mountain rises in the Ham Thuan Nam area near Phan Thiet, on the coast about 180 km northeast of central Ho Chi Minh City, in what is now Lam Dong Province (formerly Binh Thuan). The mountain is best known for its pagoda complex and a 49 m reclining Buddha statue near the summit, reached by a forested switchback trail of about 2.3 km one way. Access is by intercity coach from Mien Dong bus station to Phan Thiet in about 3.5 to 4 hours, then Grab or taxi for the remaining 25 km, or by private car in about 3 to 3.5 hours each way. A day return from Ho Chi Minh City is possible only with a very early start, so the site is usually combined with a Mui Ne or Phan Thiet coast trip. The trail climbs roughly 600 m to a summit area of about 649 m, mostly on stone steps and paved switchbacks, with some sections of loose stone. Much of the lower route is wooded, but the upper switchbacks are exposed to the sun, so the climb is sweaty and hot between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Landmarks include the temple buildings along the route, the pagoda complex near the top, and the reclining Buddha itself, which is the usual turn-around point. A cable car covers the slope in about ten minutes one way as an alternative for the ascent or descent. Drinks and snacks are sold at stalls near the base and at the top, but visitors should still carry about 2 litres of water. Modest clothing is expected at the temples. Most walkers allow two to three hours for the round trip on foot, plus time at the statue and viewpoints.
