Cà Phê Đinh

Cà Phê Đinh is a third-floor cafe at 13 Đinh Tiên Hoàng, overlooking Hoàn Kiếm Lake in central Hanoi, in northern Vietnam. It is reached through a narrow alley entrance next to a shop, and visitors climb the stairs to a small terrace and balcony with a view over the lake and the surrounding street. The menu centres on Vietnamese coffee specialities. The signature drink is cà phê trứng, egg coffee, made from whipped egg yolk, sugar and condensed milk poured over strong coffee to produce a rich, custard-like cream. Cà phê muối, salted coffee, adds a pinch of salt to soften the bitterness, and sữa chua cà phê combines coffee with yoghurt. Coconut coffee and Vietnamese drip coffee, brewed slowly through a small metal filter, are also served. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and the lake view is the main attraction, especially in the late afternoon when the light softens over the water. There is no dress code and no formal service; drinks are ordered and brought to the table. The balcony has limited seating, so noise stays low to moderate, and the mood is unhurried. Prices are low, with a typical order costing about 35,000 to 60,000 VND per person. There is no wine programme, as the menu focuses on coffee, tea and simple drinks. The cafe is open daily from 7AM to 10PM. Reservations are not needed, but balcony seats are the most popular and can fill at peak times, so visitors sometimes arrive early or wait for a table to free up. The location makes it easy to combine a coffee stop with a walk around Hoàn Kiếm Lake, which is directly below, and with visits to nearby sights in the Old Quarter. Because the entrance is unmarked to some visitors, it helps to look for the alley beside the shop and follow the stairs up.
