Posada Casa Sol occupies a painted Caribbean colonial building on Calle Carapacho in Gran Roque village, the sole inhabited settlement in the Los Roques Archipelago National Park, approximately 170 kilometres north of Caracas in the open Caribbean Sea. Gran Roque is reached exclusively by small charter aircraft — flights from Caracas take around 45 minutes — and the island's car-free sandy lanes, turquoise lagoons, and pristine coral reefs place it among Venezuela's most celebrated natural destinations. The posada stands within a two-minute walk of both the village dock and the main beach on the western side of the island.
The property was designed and decorated by its Italian-Venezuelan owners and features hand-painted walls, artisan tile floors, and bespoke wooden furniture throughout. The architectural style blends Caribbean vernacular building traditions with Mediterranean detailing in a palette of warm yellows and terracottas. Six suites of varying configurations are offered, ranging from junior suites with garden views to larger rooms with private terraces and direct sea views. Tips for visiting
- Book at least two to three months ahead for December–April, which is both the Venezuelan high season and the peak dry and windy period ideal for kite-surfing; rooms at premium posadas on Gran Roque sell out far in advance.
- All food and supplies on Los Roques must be flown or ferried in; expect to pay significantly higher prices for everything, including restaurant meals and packaged goods, than on the mainland.
- Bring enough bolívares and US dollars in cash for your entire stay; there are no ATMs on Gran Roque and card payment terminals are unreliable.
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen and insect repellent — both are difficult to obtain on the island and the combination of strong Caribbean sun and evening sandflies can be unpleasant.
- The posada can arrange shared charter flights with other guests staying the same dates, which reduces the per-person cost of the Caracas–Gran Roque flight significantly.
