Premium eco-lodge in Canaima National Park offering comfortable cabanas with lagoon views, excellent guides for Angel Falls tours, and authentic Pemon cultural experiences in a pristine natural setting.
Campamento Canaima Waku Lodge is the premium eco-lodge option in Canaima National Park, positioned on the western shore of the Canaima Lagoon with unobstructed views across the water to the multi-tiered waterfalls that cascade into it. The lodge is approximately 800 metres from the Canaima airstrip — the only access point, reached by small aircraft from Caracas (about 1 hour), Ciudad Bolívar (45 minutes), or Santa Elena de Uairén (30 minutes). The Hacha and Ucaima waterfalls are visible from the lodge's main terraces, and the surrounding Canaima National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 30,000 square kilometres of tepuy table mountains, lowland savanna, and Amazonian forest.
Accommodation is in a collection of individual thatched-roof cabanas arranged along the lagoon bank. Each cabana is constructed in a contemporary interpretation of Pemon indigenous architecture and fitted with private en-suite bathrooms with hot water, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and furnished verandas facing the lagoon. The lodge maintains a significantly higher standard of fit-out and maintenance than the budget campamentos in the village, and the landscaped grounds are kept in good condition between guest arrivals.
The main restaurant serves a fixed daily menu of Venezuelan and international dishes at a standard above what logistics into a remote national park would lead most visitors to expect. Breakfast is included in all packages. The lodge employs a team of Pemon guides with deep, generational knowledge of the park's river systems, flora, and tepuy ecology; they lead the Angel Falls overnight canoe expedition — the lodge's signature experience — as well as day excursions to the Sapo Falls, paddling in the lagoon, and visits to Pemon communities. Cultural evenings with traditional music, dance, and storytelling are organized for multi-night guests. The Waku Lodge suits travellers who want to experience Canaima's extraordinary wilderness with a meaningful level of comfort, professional organization, and Pemon cultural engagement rather than basic camp conditions.

Tips for visiting
- Packages including the Angel Falls overnight expedition book out months in advance during the high season (May–November, when the falls are fullest); contact the lodge before finalising travel dates rather than after.
- Pack clothing in layers; Canaima's humidity is high during the day but canoe journeys on the rivers can be cool, particularly in the early morning before the sun reaches the canyon walls.
- The Angel Falls overland approach involves wading through the Churún river and walking on wet, uneven jungle terrain — waterproof sandals or lightweight hiking shoes that can be completely soaked are more practical than trail runners.
- The lodge generator is more reliable than at budget campamentos but power outages during storms are possible; bring a portable power bank for camera and phone charging.
- Carry enough US dollars or euros in small denominations for the entire stay; card payment and ATMs are unavailable at Canaima, and prices for activities and extras are often quoted in hard currency.
