Vatican City shares Rome's Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) offer ideal visiting conditions with temperatures of 18-25°C and manageable crowds. Easter Sunday Mass

The Pope's most important annual mass at St. Peter's Basilica followed by 'Urbi et Orbi' blessing to the city and world. Massive crowds fill St. Peter's Square. Free but arrive very early.

December 24-25
Christmas Midnight Mass

Papal Christmas Eve mass at St. Peter's Basilica. Nativity scene and Christmas tree in St. Peter's Square. Magical atmosphere with festive decorations throughout Vatican.

December 24, 2024 - January 6, 2026
Jubilee Holy Year 2024-2026

Special Holy Year bringing millions of pilgrims to Rome and Vatican. Opening of Holy Doors at major basilicas, special indulgences, increased papal audiences and celebrations. Expect exceptional crowds.

June 29
Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

Vatican City's national day celebrating patron saints. Special papal mass at St. Peter's Basilica. Public holiday in Rome with celebrations and reduced Vatican hours.

Papal Audiences

Free weekly general audiences with the Pope in St. Peter's Square (or Paul VI Audience Hall in winter). Tickets free but must reserve in advance through Vatican website or parish.

Sundays at noon year-round
Angelus Prayer

Pope appears at window of Apostolic Palace to recite Angelus prayer and greet pilgrims in St. Peter's Square. Brief 15-minute appearance. Completely free, no tickets needed.

January 6
Epiphany Celebrations

Papal mass for Epiphany feast day. In Rome, Befana (Italian witch) festivities with markets and children's events. Traditional celebration throughout city.

December 8
Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Important feast day when Pope traditionally visits Spanish Steps to honor statue of Mary. Marks beginning of Christmas season in Rome. Public holiday.

Vatican Museums Night Openings

Extended hours until 10:30 PM with special evening atmosphere. Museums less crowded, different lighting creates unique experience. Advance booking required.

World Meeting of Families
