Tamanu on the Beach

Tamanu on the Beach occupies a secluded black-sand volcanic beach on the south coast of Efate Island, approximately 45 minutes by sealed and unsealed road from central Port Vila. The location places the resort well away from the capital's activity — the beach is not accessible to passing traffic — and the property draws a consistent repeat clientele precisely because of this seclusion. Views from the beach take in small offshore islands and open Pacific water.

The resort holds just 14 bungalows built in Melanesian style using natural materials including bamboo, hardwood, and thatch. The construction aesthetic is deliberate: the bungalows blend with their environment rather than imposing on it. Each unit is generously sized with indoor and outdoor showers, private decking, air conditioning, and direct beach or garden outlook. The limited bungalow count keeps the property at a scale where the team can deliver consistent personal service without institutional anonymity.

The kitchen draws almost entirely on the resort's own organic kitchen garden and local fishermen, changing dishes seasonally based on what is harvestable. Dinners are served in a candlelit open-air setting and are popular with non-resident guests, making advance reservations essential. The breakfast quality matches the dinner reputation, with house-baked goods and garden produce.

A holistic spa offers treatments using locally sourced ingredients including coconut oil and botanical extracts. Snorkeling and kayaking are available directly from the beach. The concierge team organizes cultural excursions to nearby Ekasup kastom village and other Efate day trips. Airport transfers to and from Port Vila are standard and arranged at booking. The resort is adults-preferred but accommodates children by arrangement.
