A pedestrian promenade of fountains, cafes and souvenir shops leading from the Registan.
Registan Street, also called Samarkand's pedestrian boulevard, is a landscaped walkway running from the Registan toward the centre of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Lined with fountains, planted trees, cafes, souvenir shops and ceramic stalls, it is the main evening promenade for locals and visitors. As dusk falls the facades of the Registan are lit and the boulevard fills with families, street performers and groups of friends. Visitors stroll from the Registan toward the market areas, stopping at cafes for tea or ice cream and browsing shops for suzani, silks, ceramics, knives and papier-mache. The walk is about 1 kilometre and takes 30-60 minutes. The boulevard is free and open all day, although shops mainly open about 09:00 to 22:00. Evening gives the best atmosphere. Prices in the souvenir shops here tend to be higher than at the bazaar, so compare before buying and bargain politely.
