🌸 Spring

Mar-May

Cherry blossoms in Washington DC (late March), wildflowers in California and Texas, comfortable temperatures across most of the country. Ideal for national parks before summer crowds.

Tips: New England foliage: drive Route 100 Vermont in mid-October; book leaf-peeping areas 3-4 months ahead; Halloween in Salem MA is extraordinary

Dec-Feb

Ski resorts in Colorado, Utah, Vermont, and Lake Tahoe peak in January-February. Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, and Southern California are warm winter destinations. Cities see festive Christmas markets and New Year's celebrations. Generally lowest prices except ski towns.

Tips: Colorado powder season December-March; Miami and Orlando peak winter tourist season requires advance booking; NYC and Chicago bitter cold but festive with holiday markets

First Saturday in May
Kentucky Derby

Prestigious horse race and social event. Mint juleps, elaborate hats, and betting on the fastest two minutes in sports.

Major music festival in Grant Park with multiple stages, diverse genres from rock to hip hop to EDM. Chicago summer institution.

Burning Man

February and September
New York Fashion Week

Bi-annual fashion industry event with runway shows, parties, and celebrity sightings. Some shows open to public, most industry-only.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

World's largest hot air balloon festival with mass ascensions of 500+ balloons at sunrise. Spectacular photography opportunity.

New Year's Eve Times Square Ball Drop

Iconic midnight ball drop watched by millions on TV and one million in person. Arrive 12+ hours early, no bathrooms, extreme cold. Bucket list item.

South by Southwest (SXSW)

Music, film, and interactive conference/festival. Tech startups, emerging artists, film premieres, and BBQ in Austin.

July 4
Fourth of July

Independence Day celebrated nationwide with fireworks, BBQ, parades, and patriotism. NYC Macy's fireworks and DC National Mall celebrations are largest.
