SeaWorld San Antonio

SeaWorld San Antonio occupies 250 acres in the far west of San Antonio, Texas, at 10500 SeaWorld Drive, approximately 15 miles from downtown. The park opened in 1988 as one of three SeaWorld locations in the United States and has evolved significantly since—particularly in its marine animal programming following industry-wide changes to orca performance shows. Today the park operates as a hybrid marine theme park and amusement park, with marine animal encounters, a substantial roller coaster lineup, water rides, and what the company describes as its conservation and rescue mission.

Marine exhibits and encounters are the park's core identity. The Penguin Encounter provides close-range viewing of Antarctic penguin species in a climate-controlled habitat. Otter Cove features sea and river otters in naturalistic enclosures. The Shark Encounter walkthrough tunnel passes beneath a large tank with multiple shark species, rays, and deep-water fish. Dolphins inhabit a large open-water habitat accessible via the Dolphin Cove touchpool area. Resident orcas remain at the park in a large habitat; programming shifted from theatrical shows to more educational presentations following policy changes.

Thrill rides form a significant part of the park's appeal for older visitors and teenagers. Catapult Falls, a steel launch flume coaster that opened in 2023, positions itself as the world's tallest and fastest flume ride. Great White (an inverted looping coaster), Tidal Twist, and several family coasters round out the ride lineup. A separate water park—Aquatica San Antonio, adjacent to the main park—adds significant value when included in combination tickets, effectively creating a two-park destination.

Seasonal events expand the calendar: Halloween Spooktacular runs weekends in September and October, and Christmas Celebrations extend the season into late December. Annual passes offer considerable savings for visitors who plan to attend multiple events.
