The Lodge Resort & Spa, Cloudcroft

The Lodge Resort & Spa in Cloudcroft is a historic mountain hotel situated at 8,600 feet elevation in the Sacramento Mountains of south-central New Mexico, in the small village of Cloudcroft. The original lodge was built in 1899 to accommodate visitors arriving by the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway; the present-day Victorian-style building was constructed in 1911 following a fire and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lodge retains much of its early 20th-century character — exposed log beams, a copper fireplace in the main lobby, hand-painted murals, and period furnishings are part of the historic fabric. The property is said to be haunted by the ghost of Rebecca, a red-haired chambermaid from the 1930s — a legend that has become integral to the hotel's identity and is reflected in the name of its signature restaurant. Guest rooms are located in the original Victorian tower and in adjacent lodge-style buildings; standard rooms begin around $110 per night and tower suites from $190. Rebecca's Restaurant is one of the most acclaimed dining venues in southern New Mexico, serving Continental and Southwestern cuisine with an extensive wine list. A nine-hole golf course established in 1899 is among the highest-elevation courses in the United States. The spa and pool serve guest relaxation, and the surrounding Lincoln National Forest provides hiking, birding, and mountain biking from the property. Cloudcroft is approximately 90 miles northeast of El Paso, Texas, and 90 miles east of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
