Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return

Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return is a permanent immersive art installation and narrative experience located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Opened in 2016 in a converted bowling alley, the 20,000-square-foot space was created by more than 135 Santa Fe artists with major support from author George R.R. Martin. The central premise is a Victorian house whose rooms and appliances have become portals to strange alternate dimensions. Visitors enter the Selig family home — complete with kitchen, bedrooms, and a stairwell — and quickly discover that every doorway, refrigerator, fireplace, and washing machine leads into a radically different environment: an alien forest, a mammoth skeleton structure that can be climbed, an underwater ocean cavern, a neon-drenched music forest, and dozens of other hand-built worlds. There is no required route; exploration is entirely self-directed, and different visitors discover different secrets, hidden passages, and narrative clues across each visit. Interactive panels, instruments, and touch-activated elements reward curious visitors who press buttons, lift tiles, and open unexpected doors. A narrative storyline about a mysterious energy source and the missing Selig family can be pieced together through found documents, messages, and interactive kiosks, though enjoying the space without following the story is equally valid. The installation spans the full range of the collective's artistic disciplines — sculpture, painting, immersive sound design, digital fabrication, and performance — making it one of the most significant works of immersive art in the United States. The onsite gift shop sells art prints, limited edition objects, and branded merchandise. The space is 10 minutes southwest of the Santa Fe Plaza with ample free parking onsite.
